Raspberry Pi: programming a small machine
The Raspberry Pi is a little $35 computer based on a credit card-sized module that plugs into the USB port of your computer. This week in Bangor, the makers of the Raspberry Pi are holding a workshop on programming a computer. (Stuart / The Maine Sunday Telegram)
Bangor – The makers of the $35 Raspberry Pi computer are holding a workshop next week on how to program it and what can be done with it.
Ben Sawyer, director of the Maine Raspberry Pi User Group, said the workshop is more than just reading a simple program.
"You can do a lot more than that with it. You can do it with a graphical programming language, you can do it with a text programming language, you can do it with the command line, or you can do it with the Java virtual machine."
The workshop will be held from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 at Bates College in Lewiston.
Sawyer said the workshop is not just for Raspberry Pi enthusiasts.
"In a sense, it's a conceptual introduction to how to program. Whether you want to take it further or not is up to you."
The workshop will feature programming tutorials. And a moderator will work with each group of participants to help them determine what they would like to do with their Raspberry Pi.
"It's a hands-on workshop. What you actually build on top of it is up to you."
